- Mechanism
- Gm · Snackable game, hidden-object style. The hotel hides something valuable inside its own grounds, and the player has to explore them to find it.
- Psychology
- The information gap holds the eye. And while searching, the player "walks" the hotel: picks a sunbed, spots the bar, counts the steps to the sea. Loewenstein, 1994 · academic research
- Platform signal
- Time on page and return visits. A new hint each day brings players back; couples search together. The teaser Reel zooms from space to the beach and stops just short of the key.
- Honest range
- 3–6 minutes average time on page; 1–3% of players book early. Typical range for a pilot in a Greek SME · Netex estimate

Somewhere on this beach, there's a key. Key in the Sand: a hidden-object campaign idea for hotels

- Announced hunt: a brass key with the N mark is hidden in this photo. Find it.
- Clicks are checked on our server. The key's position isn't in the page code or in the image metadata.
The demo didn't load. The description below tells you what you'd have seen.
The demo in words: a very large aerial photo of a Cretan beach, with sunbeds, umbrellas and sea. In one spot, visible only at high zoom, there's a small brass key with the N mark. The player zooms, searches and clicks it; the server checks the spot and records the time.
In February, a hotel posts a gigapixel panorama of its beach. Hidden in it is a brass key. The first person to find it wins a week for two. Everyone else has already walked the hotel with their eyes.

How it runs, step by step
-
In the low season, the hotel publishes a summer gigapixel drone panorama of its beach and grounds.
-
A small brass key is hidden in the photo, a real prop shot on location, along with ten "silver" prizes: spa, dinner, a room upgrade.
-
A teaser Reel zooms from space down to the beach and stops just before the key.
-
The first correct click wins a week for two. Silver finds win the smaller perks.
-
Every player gets a "You searched for 6m 40s" card with an early-booking code for the hotel's site. A new hint each day brings them back.
Channels and tech
- Channels
- Teaser on Reels and TikTok · the game on the hotel's own site · email to past guests · Meta and Google ads in source markets (Germany, UK, Netherlands, France, Israel)
- Tech
- Deep-zoom tiles (OpenSeadragon) · server-side click validation · EXIF and metadata stripped · timer and leaderboard · booking-engine hook for the code
Complexity 3 of 5 · one drone shoot and 2–3 weeks of development
Production cost €€€ · excluding media and prizes
What to expect, honestly
We don't promise viral. We promise a mechanism you can measure.
- Average time on the game page 3–6 minutes
- Players who book early 1–3%
- Pre-season email list Grows through the hints; we measure it, we don't forecast it.
most likely on a first run · A first run usually lands in the lower half of the range.
Before launch we fix one primary KPI and a control: a holdout area, off-trigger days or the previous period.Control: early direct bookings against the same period last year, and players against non-players.
Guardrails
- The hunt is announced, with written prize terms.
- Clicks are validated on the server. No position leaks through metadata, file names or low-resolution tiles: the key only appears at the deepest zoom.
- No "share or tag to enter".Meta Pages policies
- Greek promotional-game rules are checked by a lawyer before any campaign, including an alternative way to enter for people who can't play visually.
- Board nicknames are moderated; no real name or email is ever shown publicly.
- The hint email is collected for one purpose, with a consent box that isn't pre-ticked.
Why it works
Greek hotels take 40.3% of room nights direct, against 51.3% across the EU, and just 8.7% are booked in real time on their own site. A game that lives on the hotel's own site brings the visitor to the one place where a booking pays no commission. HOTREC, European Hotel Distribution Study 2026, via To Vima · industry body
Seek-and-find games hold attention for minutes, not seconds. Cadbury's "Worldwide Hide" logged 2.26M visits with an average time of about 5 minutes. Google Maps Platform · self-reported
And while searching, the player does something no room photo achieves: explores the hotel spot by spot, on their own initiative, in February.
The difficulty is the point. Nobody remembers a key found in ten seconds.
Who did it before us
Third-party results are mostly self-reported, from award entries and vendors. They show a mechanic can work, not what it will do for you.
| Year | Who | What they did | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021–23 | Cadbury "Worldwide Hide" | Hide a virtual egg anywhere on Street View for someone you love, with a clue to find it. | 2.26M visits, about 5 minutes average time, 809,000 eggs hidden. |
| 2024 | Frontify "Spot the Brand" (B2B) | 50 logos hidden in an illustrated city, 5 minutes on the clock. | 40,000+ plays, +96% inbound leads in two weeks. |
The other hemisphere
The player found the key at 11:40pm. Now they have a question.
The AI Front Desk answers in the guest's language, on the site, WhatsApp and Viber, checks availability and passes the booking to reception. It says it's an AI in its first sentence.
Do you have a sea-view room in early June?
Good evening, I'm the hotel's digital assistant, an AI system. For 3–10 June there are two sea-view rooms. Shall I hold one with your code, or have reception call you in the morning?
